We published an article a while back on how to creating and assigning calendars in Primavera P6 EPPM and you can read that here. Several folks have contacted us wanting to know some more about this. So, we’ve produced a short video where you can get a feel of the capabilities and functionality of this feature and see it live in action.
Creating and assigning calendars are fundamental to schedules created and managed in the Primavera P6 EPPM system. Every calculation using dates needs a calendar to work.
Creating and assigning calendars support a project from its implementation to its completion, allowing the project manager to plan his activities and utilize his resources over a specified working day, weeks, and months. This helps in allowing a project to adhere to completion dates and budget.
When creating and assigning calendars, Primavera P6 EPPM offers different calendar formats ranging from a 5X8 (an 8-hour working day, 5 days a week),4×10, shifts or any other corporate standard week. Non-workdays are a feature of Primavera P6 EPPM calendars used to factor in vacation days and national holidays. The Calendar format selected for your organization has to reflect the requirement of your project. Some projects may use multiple calendars with different hours per day, to accurately reflect the project reality. Calendars can be created and assigned to each resource, each project or each activity.
Calendars are used to define when work can take place for activities and resources. Calendar assignments are used for activity scheduling, tracking and resource-leveling. Depending on whether an activity uses its assigned calendar or the calendar of an assigned resource will depend on the activity type specified in the project; whether it is task-dependent or resource-dependant.
