4 Myths about EVM
Myth #1: We don’t need EVMS for such a small/large project Truth: Many government agencies mandate EVMS, regardless of the size of the project. Earned Value is an asset, not an overhead, and done right it adds value to any size of project. EV helps the project team establish an environment of transparency and data-driven decision-making, which is in turn ensures the project stays in control and improves project success rates and customer satisfaction.
Myth #2: EVM is too bureaucratic Truth: EVM provides project controls that lead to better project outcomes. It doesn’t have to be bureaucratic if it is done right. However, the objectivity of an EVMS leaves nowhere to hide. Some organizations are reluctant to acknowledge the full extent of actual costs, let alone share these with Internal or Customer Management.
Myth #3: An EMVS is expensive to implement Truth: You probably already have many of the software tools required to run an EVMS, and you don’t need a whole team to run it.
