Get your Earned Value Management System up and running quickly
If you’ve just won a project, you probably know that a compliant Earned Value Management System (EVMS) is now a part of that. Let our EVMS consulting services help you get your system set up the right way so you can focus on being proud of the results you deliver for clients.
Many organizations that we work with are implementing an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for the first time. Government standards have driven this demand by requiring organizations bidding on government contracts to embed cost management and earned value management principles, techniques and tools into their project delivery.
How it works
Are you implementing an EVMS for the first time? We can streamline the process so your set up is efficient and done right the first time.
Are you struggling to implement Earned Value on your projects? We can help uncover the real reasons why and create a plan to address them so you start seeing the benefits.
Do you want to train staff in how to get the best from your EVMS? We deliver one-on-one training, remote and classroom courses, mentoring and coaching, working with real project data and thorough documentation including desktop process guides to support the EVMS process.
Ten Six offers EVMS consulting services and training that cover every element of a successful implementation. Wherever you are in your implementation, the Ten Six team of experienced consultants and trainers can help.

Overcoming the challenges of EVMS implementation
We know that getting your EVMS set up right, the first time, can be a challenge. And yet, your business depends on it. Government standards require organizations bidding on government contracts to embed cost management and earned value management principles, techniques and tools into their project delivery. And that’s where we come in. We can help address the organizational blockers that might be stopping you from getting the most out of your EVMS and winning more business.
4 Myths about EVM
Myth #1: We don’t need EVMS for such a small/large project Truth: Many government agencies mandate EVMS, regardless of the size of the project. Earned Value is an asset, not an overhead, and done right it adds value to any size of project. EV helps the project team establish an environment of transparency and data-driven decision-making, which is in turn ensures the project stays in control and improves project success rates and customer satisfaction.
Myth #2: EVM is too bureaucratic Truth: EVM provides project controls that lead to better project outcomes. It doesn’t have to be bureaucratic if it is done right. However, the objectivity of an EVMS leaves nowhere to hide. Some organizations are reluctant to acknowledge the full extent of actual costs, let alone share these with Internal or Customer Management.
Myth #3: An EMVS is expensive to implement Truth: You probably already have many of the software tools required to run an EVMS, and you don’t need a whole team to run it. Let us help you set them up the most cost-effective way so you can spend more time on proposals and win more bids. An EVMS can pay for itself in new business and in avoiding cost overruns!
Myth #4: We can’t establish the baseline early because there is too much uncertainty Truth: Some organizations don’t want to put in the effort to do detailed planning upfront, but it is rarely impossible. EVMS allows for flexibility and change in a controlled way: it will actually help you avoid poor change management.
There are no magic wands for implementing EVMS
The truth is that EVM is usually a large and complex undertaking. It requires a team of people experienced in its implementation and it will take time to get right. You’ll need to invest time in organizational change management too. However, the benefits of investing in the work required are substantial:
Contract compliance
Improved accountability
Reduced project risk
Improved project delivery.
By combining advanced planning, baseline methods and earned value analysis, you will have better, earlier visibility into program performance than you would by utilizing non-integrated methods of planning and control.
Case study
Wood Group, a global leader in the delivery of project, engineering and technical services to energy and industrial markets, asked Ten Six to assist with their EVMS for a major program for the USAF Space Fence Program. The goal was to improve data quality and confidence in their existing implementation. The improved efficiency that stemmed from the Ten Six improvements allowed the project team to reduce monthly recurring costs tremendously and run a trouble-free EV month-end process using Deltek Cobra for another US Government program that began after Ten Six had completed their improvement plan.
