Sometimes it’s the little things that can really differentiate a product from its competitors. One feature I really find invaluable and unique to Primavera P6 is the Progress Spotlight. Whenever you’re in the process of updating the status of your schedule, this little gem can really take the guesswork out of what needs to be updated. It’s available in both the Primavera P6 EPPM (web based) client and in the Primavera P6 Professional client and works identically in both systems.
Located in the View menu and View tool group, the Progress Spotlight will highlight in yellow any activities that are due status in the current update period. The update period is determined entirely by the level of zoom you have selected in the lower timescale tier.
For example, if you are doing weekly status, you would set the timescale to Month/Week.
Next you switch on the Progress Spotlight feature and it will highlight any activities requiring status in yellow.
This is a terrific visual aid when entering progress and allows you to avoid goofing around with various filters to glean the same information.
As a scheduler, I’ve used this feature extensively in both Primavera P6 EPPM and Primavera P6 Professional clients and it always makes short work of the status process.
