Cole Engineering Services, a Veteran Owned Small Business based in Orlando, Florida, is a provider of live, virtual and constructive training environments to the US military. Since 2009, MT2 has listed Cole Engineering as one of the top simulation and training companies.
Challenge
As part of a growing business which also included moving to larger facilities, Cole Engineering asked Ten Six to support the expansion of their use of Deltek MPM, Deltek wInsight and Microsoft Project. As Cole had won more government contracts, the requirement for an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) was growing and new users were coming on board to help meet the increased demand.
Ten Six Approach
Ten Six initially reviewed the existing EVMS implementation, assessing the people, process and tools before making several improvement recommendations. This enabled a new baseline system to be rapidly implemented before the new users were introduced to it. The Ten Six consultant was able to deliver the following:
- Initial snapshot assessment of existing system and capabilities.
- Improvements to the existing EVMS covering process gaps.
- Microsoft Project integration with Deltek MPM.
- Deltek MPM training classes for new users.
- Deltek wInsight training.
- Individual coaching and mentoring support.
In addition, Cole had also asked Ten Six to help with training it’s client in both Earned Value as well as the use of Deltek MPM.
Results
Cole Engineering now has a very robust EVMS implementation with all team members operating in a consistent way. Performance data is accurate and together with Cole’s ability to deliver, their clients are happy. Cole Engineering has asked Ten Six back for additional ad hoc support, advise and guidance with specific issues and challenges that have emerged.
