Schedule performance period progress. I provide monthly schedule status updates to a client using Primavera P6. This client recently requested that I undo progress from an activity that has already been updated with progress. Have you ever wondered how to undo a status update from an activity in Primavera P6 Professional?
Primavera P6 Professional allows the scheduler to enter and update start and finish status dates for activities. But after the data date is moved forward and the schedule recalculated, it is more complex to change the updates to these same activities. What does the scheduler do to undo activity updates in a performance period?
The ideal process is for the scheduler to have saved a copy of the project prior to the updates. However, in this example, a backup file was not saved and it is still possible to undo schedule performance period progress.
This article demonstrates a quick tip to undo schedule performance period progress from scheduled activities.
In Figure 1 we have our demonstration project.
Figure 1
This project has 2 month’s progress through the end of February. Some of our updates from February were incorrect and require editing. We want to move the data date backwards, but first we need to change the time stamp settings. Select edit | user preferences, Figure 2.

In the date’s option toggle the time stamp on, Figure 3.

Go to the projects tab, Figure 4, and change the data date.

Review the change report and, if appropriate, select commit changes. Our schedule now has all February progress erased, Figure 10.

The last task is to re-enter the January status of grade site and set foundation. Set grade site to 80% complete, Figure 11.

Recalculate the schedule, and we are back to the schedule just prior to February updates, Figure 13.

Summary
It is feasible to undo performance period schedule updates by moving the data date back to the beginning of the performance period. You will want to display the time stamp to confirm the appropriate data date. It is then efficient to remove all schedule progress equal to or greater than the data date using a global change routine.
You may have to reenter the prior period status of activities that overlap the data date. Recalculate the schedule and you will be back to the prior period schedule status. If your schedule has progressed labor resources make a global change routine to zero out actual labor costs.
