How to add Deadline, or other passive milestone markers, to a Primavera P6 Professional Gantt Chart.
From time to time I get asked if there’s some way to put objects on a Primavera P6 Professional Gantt chart without having to use activities to do it. Typically this question comes up when the project team want to mark an important date, like a customer deadline, on the schedule, but not have it as part of the critical path. The second you create an activity in P6 and use a constraint to fix it on a date, you have introduce the potential to affect your currently critical path.
However, if you want to place a milestone-like marker on the Gantt chart without interfering with the critical path, then the following video shows you how to do it. In the above screen shot you can see a Deadline triangle has been introduced on the same row at the project complete milestone, but is passive and is not on the critical path; because it isn’t actually a activity.
In this video I’ll show you how to add a deadline date to a Primavera P6 Professional Gantt chart using two UDFs and a new Bar in the Bars dialog.
