Deltek Acumen 6.1 has just been released and includes some major enhancements focused on helping organizations compare multiple what-if scenarios so they can make the most informed decisions going forward.
What is the best plan forward?
Deltek Acumen 6.1 adds the ability to compare two or more scenarios in a single tornado chart so you can see how the different scenarios impact risk drivers. The tornado chart is a great way to quickly see what is driving your project, but it has always been shown scenario by scenario. This new enhancement allows you to develop different approaches to executing your project and then on one screen see how the different scenarios match up.
This capability allows you to quickly assess how changes to a plan can either reduce or introduce risk impacts on a project. It also lets you see if the changes you might make to a project to solve one problem will introduce another. You can do all of this proactively in one report with the new multi scenarios Risk Driver Analysis capability.
Is your mitigation worth it?
Defining mitigation steps to reduce or eliminate risk from a project is part of a healthy risk management process, but they have the same ambiguities of any plan. Before you commit to your mitigation steps, would it not be valuable to understand if the gain is going to be worth the pain? With the new Risk Register mitigation steps, you can do just that.
The ability to define the mitigation steps and then run analysis that includes/excludes all or some of those steps allows you to quickly create different scenarios based on different mitigation profiles. With these different scenarios in hand, you can see the gain at the project level you will get for your different mitigation steps. You may find that the results of implementing your mitigation steps are not worth the cost, avoiding the problem of throwing good money after bad.
And the rest…
There are many other updates that mostly impact the usability of the tool including a new Flat View for Primavera P6 projects, enhancements to ribbon definition (a great tool for drilling into performance), easier organization of ribbon and phase metrics, as well as fixes for previously reported issues.
These enhancements are welcome additions to the Deltek Acumen suite further improving its use for project analysis. We look forward to putting them into action in the field.
