Project Learn is a training day where classroom training and workshops will be provided by PMO experts and trainers, whereas the PMO conference 2022 will be a traditional conference with keynote speakers, tracks, networking, and an exhibiting hall. Project Learn is a one-day learning event where PMO trainers and experts will provide a variety of learning facilities ranging from workshops to classroom discussions and quizzes. Four key learning areas for PMOs will be provided:
PMO trainers will offer their insights on the facilitation process and focus on examples that PMO practitioners are most likely to manage and run. Experts will explain how being a great facilitator takes years of practice, but by planning and using different techniques (depending upon the situation) you can achieve the desired outcome.
Metrics and Measures
In this session, PMO experts will look at metrics and measures that demonstrate that the PMO is delivering value to the organization. Delving into the hybrid ways of delivering projects and programs, our experts will answer the following questions:
If we are delivering using waterfall or agile, how do we measure this?
How can we do this at project, program, and portfolio levels?
In this session, PMO experts will focus on how PMOs can use coaching skills to help other members of the delivery organization who require help to get their job done. Although PMO’s traditionally train and mentor, experts will offer their insights on coaching conversations, so that help can be provided by others to ultimately help themselves.
In this workshop, PMO experts will review the role of the PMO and the whole delivery system. They will explain the need for value stream management at portfolio level when change is delivered that impacts on organizational agility. Experts will provide the techniques to help deliver change faster and cheaper offering value to the business.
Laura Barnard – CEO of PMO Strategies. Laura is a World PMO influencer and is the 2021-2022 Top Global PMO thought leader awarded by the PMO Global Alliance. Laura has worked with business leaders from non-profit to global financial institutions. In her keynote address, ‘The Secret to Driving Unstoppable Business for your PMO’ Laura will offer her insights on tried and tested techniques used in the PMO on how to drive measurable business value quickly. Laura will offer a road map on how to position your PMO as a strategic business asset that can lead your organization into the future.
Americo Pinto- is the Leader of PMO Global Alliance, researcher, and co-author of ‘What Makes a World-Class PMO’. In his keynote address ‘What Makes a World-Class PMO?’ Americo will share insights from his book, composed of comprehensive surveys and interviews with PMO leaders globally. In his quest to answer this question (what makes a world-class PMO?) Americo has discovered there are not any single paths to success. He will offer his insights on common elements that may make our PMOs invaluable to the top management and the organization.
Andrew Whyatt- Sames is a comedian and business psychologist.
Andrew’s entertaining keynote ‘Taming the Untameable – How to Get Senior Execs on Board’, will offer his insights on one of the biggest challenges of the PMO, building solid relationships with managers and executives, to deliver supply decisions for successful change in organizations. Andrew will offer his insights on psychology- how to understand what goes on inside executives’ heads and find out what they care about. By building a psychological contact with senior management, Andrew will demonstrate how this can help the PMO to successfully support supply decisions, and challenge changes.
Multiple tracks or breakout sessions provided by PMO experts will be available throughout the day. Some of the tracks will be interactive offering delegates the opportunity to join in and discuss best practices about the topics.
Simon Harwood Director at Fidelity International will run an interactive session ‘PMO Leadership’. Simon will offer his insights from the latest PMO report that is focused on PMO Leadership. Simon will offer his insights on what leadership in a modern PMO can look like, who it comes from, what it covers, and where it can take you.
Jon Ward CEO, of Beneficial Consulting, will run a track ’Mastering Lean Portfolio Management.’ Jon will offer his insights on Agile ways of working. In this interactive session, Jon will demonstrate that by embracing Agile strategies you can reduce costs, time-to-market, and increase customer satisfaction.
Rachel Jenkins, PMO Operations Manager for Nottinghamshire NHS CCG. In Rachel’s interactive track ‘Coaching and Mentoring in the PMO – do we, could we, should we?’ she will explore the unique position of PMO with the opportunity not only to identify needs in the PPM workforce but to coach and mentor them. Rachel will offer her insights on how by taking advantage of coaching and mentoring to develop a capable workforce. Rachel will also demonstrate how to recognize and signpost mentoring needs, that make a positive impact on the organization
Shailesh Sharma is EMPO Director, Royal Commission for AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Shailesh will offer a track ‘Building and Scaling an Effective ePMO’. Shailesh has been working for the RCU on a long-term plan to develop a sustainable transformation of the region, ensuring it is one of the country’s cultural destinations. Shailesh will offer his insights on how he improved delivery agility and speed of execution by 20% through simplification and flexibility for products in the global supply chain. Shailesh will also explain how with the optimized use of internal and external resources globally he could increase scalability in meeting fluctuating demands.
Zoey O’Toole runs her own consultancy practice. Zoey will run a track ‘Change Management through the PMO Lens.’ Zoey will offer her insights on how change management can be used to boost positive PMO influence. Zoey will offer her insights on effective change management that can lead to the successful adoption of new processes, systems, and cultures. Zoey will demonstrate change management using examples from both project delivery, portfolio management, and PMO setup.
Ian Hammond MBE, is Enterprise Transformation Office Director, BT. Ian will offer a track ‘The Award-Winning Client Services PMO’ Ian was awarded the Queens MBE for successfully supporting the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ian and his team won PMO of the Year at the APM Awards. Ian will offer his insights on the communication services required for the Nightingale Hospitals and the rollout of the Covid Vaccination Centres.
Jo Stanford is Head of Project Profession and Corporate Portfolio Office for NHS Health Education England. Jo will offer a track ‘The Power of the Network Building the Project Management Profession in the NHS.’ Jo will offer her insights on embedding the capability, collaborative approach, and evidence-based decision-making needed to support organizations to maximize benefits and meet their strategic objectives. As a member of the APM Benefits Portfolio, a special interest group, Jo will demonstrate the importance of shared learning and development across industry sectors, promoting competence that offers the skills to adapt and thrive in an increasingly changing world.
