Like me, you may be leery of built in help systems because your past experience with them has been less than positive. The Microsoft Office Paperclip helper that everyone’s first question to was, “how do I turn you off permanently, you nauseating 18 gauge Avatar?” positively leaps to mind as I write this.
Primavera P6 Help
However, in the case of Primavera P6’s Hint Help system, this has repeatedly answered questions for me over the years, largely about the data columns, how the values are calculated or what they represent. So I’ve become a bit of a fan.
Located in the View menu, Hint Help is also easy to turn on an off using the F3 key on your keyboard if you’re using a version R8.1 or earlier. If you’re using R8.2 then Alt F1 will do the trick. And when it’s running you can pin it down in one corner so it doesn’t keep popping into view when you’re doing something unrelated.
So if you wanted to know the difference between Free Float and Total Float for example, Hint Help will give you exactly that information, without you having to keyword search though a voluminous help system or user guide.
The Hint Help information will pop up when you select a column name (or any other Hint Help supported object in the system). The yellow box will contain a clear and concise account of the field’s properties.
So then, what’s the difference between Original Duration and Remaining Duration?
Thanks Primavera P6 Hint Help! Of course, I knew that.
