We still get many questions from clients and users regarding importing or exporting XER files between different versions of Oracle Primavera P6. If you’ve received an XER file that’s not for the version of Primavera P6 that you use, then you could use the technique mentioned in a previous Blog.
This discussed how you could edit XER files in Windows Notepad so that you can then import them into different versions of Oracle Primavera P6 (see Importing XER Files From Newer Versions Of Primavera P6 ). For example, you could import a Primavera P6 version 7 XER file into P6 version 6.2.
While this approach still works and is used regularly by many Primavera P6 users, it still is easier to simply request the file that is being sent to you to match the version of Primavera P6 version.
The Export feature built in to Primavera P6 allows you to export a project to any previous version of P6. As you can see from the screen grab below, you are presented with a pick list showing previous versions of P6 that you can select from.
