Developing Primavera P6 Reports with
Power BI
Training Class

Course Information

During this 1-day class, students will create two Power BI reports against an Oracle database. One report will be created using the P6 Professional database (ADMUSER) and the second report will be created using the P6 EPPM Reporting database (PXRPTUSER).

We also cover connecting to a P6 MSSQL database during the class.

For the class, Ten Six will provide access to an on-premise Oracle P6 database for live demonstration and for class exercises.

This course consists of five student exercises which will help understand and apply the powerful features in PBI. By the end of the class, students will be able to design, create and publish simple PBI reports from scratch.

A link to a recording will be also provided. It shows students how to connect a Power BI report directly to an on-premise P6 database.

Students will be shown how to publish Power BI reports to the Power BI service and how to automatically refresh the data in the Power BI reports using the P6 databases. By directly connecting your Power BI reports to your P6 database, you no longer need to manually export XER/XML files from P6 for reporting, nor do you need to copy/paste your P6 data into an EXCEL file. Also, you can automatically refresh your Power BI reports multiple times a day on the Power BI service without any manual steps.

Finally, Power BI reports that are published to the Power BI service can be shared with others in your organization (as long as the other users have a Power BI Pro license). Refreshing and sharing reports on the Power BI service is automatic and seamless!

Prerequisites

Primavera P6 Experience. Experience working with databases, Power BI Desktop, DAX, Power Query/MCode would be helpful but not required as this is an introductory class.

Software Requirements

Power BI Desktop (this is a free tool from Microsoft).
(Optional) Access to a Primavera P6 database (however, Ten Six will provide access to a P6 database during the class).
(Optional) Power BI Service.
(Optional) Power BI Gateway.
