Deltek Cobra 8.1 is a gift that just keeps on giving. The ribbon based interface has borrowed some nice convenient features from similar tools in the Windows environment. Today, I’m going to take a closer look at the Quick Access Toolbar.
Located to the right of the Deltek Cobra start button, the Quick Access Toolbar typically has only a Save icon displayed by default. However, this is so much more versatile than, at first, you might realize. Indeed, for a while I didn’t notice that it is really flexible beyond its apparent standard functionality.
Notice first of all, that there is a small down-arrow to the far right of the toolbar. When you hover the cursor over that arrow, you will see the following ‘Customize Quick Access Toolbar’ prompt.
When you click on the arrow, you are presented with the following menu.
You can select from the list to add several more buttons to your toolbar including New, Open, Save As, Find, Backup and Restore.
And for the first few weeks of using Deltek Cobra 8 after it first came out, I thought that this was the extent of the options for this handy little toolbar: adding from the list, and moving it below the ribbon if I wanted.
Oh contraire mon Ami – there is more – much more. Take a look at the following. I noticed that if you right-click on pretty much any button, on any of the Ribbons, you get two options, the first of which is to add the button you are clicking on to your Quick Access Toolbar. Yay – how cool is that?
Needless to say, just seconds after making this discovery, my Quick Access Toolbar looked more like this:
Yes folks, you can load ‘er up with all your frequently used favorites like the Microsoft Project and Primavera P6 integration buttons, the calculation buttons and of course, the Update Totals button is a must have for sure.
And if you want to remove a button, simply right-click on it again and select the ‘Remove from Quick Access Toolbar’ option.
I hope you found that helpful folks. I just love to share these fun discoveries with you all.
