Schedulers often want to use an existing schedule as a template for a similar project. First, to make the schedule fit for purpose, they may want to remove all the relationships from their template, so that it can be efficiently used in their new project.
Primavera P6 Professional supports the removal of all relationships from a project schedule. There are a number of ways to do this and this quick tip explains one great way how to achieve it.
In Figure 1, we have our example project ‘Pipe Installation’ which we want to use as a template for a similar project.
Figure 1
We highlight the project, right-click and select Copy from the popup menu, as shown below in Figure 2.
Figure 2
By right-clicking again, we then select paste. Primavera P6 will then display a series of dialog boxes of ‘Copy Project Options’. This is where we can decide what to include in the new project options, as shown below in Figure 3.
Figure 3
In this example, we don’t need to make any changes when we copy the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). However, under ‘Copy Activity Options’ we can uncheck the ‘Relationships’ and select ‘OK’ as in Figure 4.
Figure 4
Now when we recalculate our ‘Pipe Installation’ project schedule, we have the WBS with a list of activities and without relationships, below in Figure 5.
