Deltek are holding their annual User Conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center (1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine, TX, 76051, USA.) on Monday Nov 5 until Thursday Nov 8. Deltek Insight is a popular event with over 3,000 delegates expected to attend, ranging from executives, project and portfolio managers, finance /accounting leaders and development managers from a vast range of industries. This year, Deltek are offering over 340 Tracks, Pre-Conference workshops, Keynote Speakers, Expo, Networking, Meet the Experts and Celebrate Insight.
Pre- Conference Workshops
The Pre-Conference workshops will held at the Gaylord Texan Resort Center on Monday Nov 5 between 9am and 12pm. These workshops are designed for delegates to gain in-depth training on the latest Deltek products. Industry experts run them all and they offer delegates the opportunity to learn about the products prior to the main conference so that this new knowledge can be built upon at the ‘Insight.’

Estimates to Complete Using Cobra – Jessica Coral is a government contract manager at BDO USA, gaining over five years of diverse experience in project management, specifically Earned Value Management (EVM) System implementations, training, and reporting analysis. She is proficient in the use of Deltek’s Cobra 5.1, wInsight Desktop, and wInsight Dashboard as well as MS Project Professional and Project Server. Jessica will introduce the forecasting features of Cobra, highlighting three primary methods of updating forecast, direct schedule integration, csv/xml integration, and resource assignment import / export. Jessica will review the pros and cons of each approach, and provide an introduction to implementing the different approaches.
And it all Came Tumbling Down-Project Schedule Risk Analysis – Bruce McLean is Group Manager and Project Analysis at GE Aviation. Bruce will use DCMA’s 14 points as a guide for validating the health of a schedule. Bruce will give his insights into how you determine the affects of risk on a schedule, By using several risk assessments Bruce will run through Monte Carlo simulations discussing how to interpret the results and look at “what if scenario’s”.
PM Compass New Features and Roadmap – Jack Newton and Gerald Ruiz, Deltek will display the recently released new features for PM Compass and look at the future roadmap for this product.
Acumen and Open Plan New Features and Roadmap – Gerald Ruiz and Rob Edwards, Deltek will both show the recently released new features for Acumen and Open Plan and look at the future roadmap for these products.
Cobra New Features and Roadmap – Kathy Boatwright and Gerald Ruiz, Deltek with both discuss the recently released new features for Cobra, looking at the future roadmap for this product.
wInsight Analytics New Features and Roadmap – Mike Boulton and Gerald Ruiz, Deltek will both discuss the recently released new features for wInsight Analytics, looking at the future roadmap for this product.
Using Deltek’s PPM Suite to Track EVAS Metrics – Mary Major and Tom Polen, Deltek will both demonstrate the EVAS process from an integrated Open Plan/Cobra schedule/budget to Acumen. They will review Acumen, cost/schedule integration. EVAS metrics will be calculated (in Acumen) and exported to wInsight. Data will be imported into wInsight and viewed from within wInsight Analytics Module QlikView.
PPM Kickoff – Jason Kinder, Product Marketing Director, Deltek will chair a panel of Project Management experts from various industries in the ‘PPM Kickoff’. During this interactive session they will discuss issues that they are facing daily.
Agile: It’s not just for Software Anymore – David Lee and Amber Wildman, Deltek will give their insights on how to use Agile methods to transform your HR organization.
Emerging Trends in Integrated Program Management (IPM) – Dale Gillam and Andrea Nibert, Leidos will both offer a comprehensive overview of trends in the Integrated Program Management (IPM) community. Topics will include on-going initiatives to improve program start-ups and transitions, collaboration across functional disciplines and organizations, use of program communications and reviews to decrease program risks. New reporting requirements, current review practices, schedule analyses, the integration of management practices (such as Agile & EVM), Government Agency initiatives.
Preparing for the new DoD IPMR requirements using PM Compass and Cobra – David Scott BDO USA will offer his expertize on how organizations may prepare for the new DOD Integrated Program Management Reporting (IPMR) Data Item Description. David will review the new OSD PARCA JSON electronic data file format requirements and what organizations may need to consider in order to align EVMS to support this new file format. David will also review solutions for automating EVMS processes using PM Compass and Cobra in order to meet the new timeframe for government reporting.
Risk-Adjusted Schedule – Michael Cole and Annette Fairburn, Deltek will give their insights in the uncertainty and unknowns in Acumen Risk. Michael and Annette will apply uncertainty, risk events, drivers, and discover possible mitigation’s within a risk-adjusted schedule. They will review how lesser activities become important causing unexpected changes and the likelihood of completing the project on time and within budget when uncertainty and unknowns become a reality.
Updating Schedule Status Using PM Compass – Ruthanne Schulte, Deltek will give her insight on how PM Compass integrates with a variety of schedule applications including Open Plan, MS Project Pro, MS Project Server, and Primavera P6. Ruthanne will review the end-to-end process for updating these schedules using PM Compass.

The 4 Oarsmen are a quartet of friends (George Biggar, Dicky Taylor, Peter Robinson and Stuart Watts) who spent 29 days at sea during a 3,000-mile crossing from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean. They beat the previous Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge race record of 35 days and raised £250,000 for charity. In their keynote address the four friends will explain their preparation and motivation for this world record achievement.
The Expo area is divided into two areas: the customer studio where vendors will be on-hand demonstrating their products and the theatre where scheduled product displays will be held. Industry experts will be in both venues to answer questions and explain best practices.
Networking has been scheduled through out the duration of ‘Insight’ where delegates can make long lasting contacts and share best practices with their peers.

Meet the Experts is a 45-minute appointment with Deltek support on a one-to one basis. This is an opportunity to get detailed guidance on a product or service within the Deltek range of products. These 45-minute slots are popular therefore they are limited to one slot per delegate on a first come first served basis.

We reviewed two top hotels in close proximity to the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, the Hyatt Place Dallas/Grapevine and the Hilton Garden Inn DFW North Grapevine.
The Hyatt Place is a three star hotel located 2.6 miles from the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. The staffs are friendly and professional, offering a free shuttle bus service from the airport. The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is included and although it is buffet style there are many options that are unique and unusual. A three-night stay costs $765.44.
The Hilton Garden Inn is a three star hotel approximately 2.5 miles from the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. This hotel is also close to the airport and offers a free shuttle service. It is a very quiet hotel, which is surprising as it is located on a main highway. It is close to bars and restaurants. The hotel is clean, has excellent Wi-Fi and exceptional air conditioning. The beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious. A three-night stay costs $862.41.
