Is it possible in Primavera P6 Professional to schedule automatically?
I recently provided a client an updated schedule and the goods news they would meet the contract completion deadline by one week. The only problem was I neglected to recalculate the schedule. When this mishap was discovered I subsequently recalculated the schedule and found out that the schedule would miss the contract completion deadline by 3 days. Could this missed oversight have been avoided?
This article provides the Primavera P6 Professional automatic schedule update quick tip.
The default setting in Primavera P6 Professional schedule options is non-automatic manual scheduling. Figure 1 displays the schedule options dialog, and the toggle to “schedule automatically when a change affects dates”.
When we toggle on automatic scheduling Primavera P6 automatically updates the schedule when a change affects dates.
The outstanding question is if you are planning a project schedule which setting is more appropriate: automatic or manual scheduling? Your selection depends in part on your confidence in Primavera P6 Professional’s ability to undo changes made previous to a schedule calculation. Primavera P6 Professional does have an undo feature, so theoretically you should be able to reset changes made prior to a schedule calculation.
Setting Primavera P6 Professional to automatically schedule makes sense. This helps avoid the painful mistake of submitting reports on a schedule that has not been recalculated or rescheduled after changes affecting dates. The default setting in Primavera P6 Professional is manual scheduling, which can easily be toggled to automatic.
So the choice is yours in Primavera P6: manual or automatic scheduling? We recommend you set the scheduling to automatic while in the planning stage of your project and note any issues that may occur while using the automatic scheduling option.
