As part of the assimilation into Oracle, the Primavera Global Business Unit is no more. Don’t worry, Primavera P6 is not going anywhere, the business unit has been renamed to the Oracle Construction and Engineering Global Business Unit (CEGBU).
This move reflects Oracle’s acquisitions over the past few years including Skire (now Primavera Unifier), Instantis (Cloud based Project Portfolio Management) and more recently Textura (a Chicago based company offering contract management and online payment tools for the construction industry).
Oracle’s broader cloud-based product set for the engineering and construction industry place them in a stronger position to increase market share.
“The increasingly global engineering and construction industry requires digital modernization in a way that automates manual processes and embraces the power of cloud computing to easily connect the construction job site, reduce cost overruns, and improve productivity,” said Mike Sicilia, SVP and GM, Engineering and Construction Global Business Unit, Oracle (former SVP and General Manager of the Primavera Global Business Unit).
This all seems to make sense and there’s nothing for us Primavera P6 users to be concerned with. Emotionally, it is sad to see the complete absorption of Primavera into the huge Oracle machine, but in reality, Primavera P6’s capabilities will only continue to grow stronger.
