Deltek Cobra allows you to create ad-hoc calculated results when running reports. The purpose of this feature is to allow you to output values that do specific math on results that fall outside of those calculations performed in the Resource Calculations ancillary file.
This article looks at the calculated results feature in Deltek Cobra and explains how to use it when running a report.
For example, if you are using a number of burdens on a direct cost, such as G&A, Overhead and Fringe, and you needed to report some values that included only Direct and G&A then you could do this using a calculated result.
How It Works
The Calculated Result is accessible as an option whenever you select the Results option in the Sub-Totals dialog of the Reports Wizard. In this example we’re running a time-phased report.
When you select the Results sub-total option, the next dialog in the Wizard is the Results dialog.
On this dialog you will see the New Calculated Results… button below the Available Results list.
When you click on this button the following dialog appears.
Click the Add button and you get to create a new calculated result.
You can then use the lower half of the dialog to build a calculated result by selecting results from the list on the left, and adding them to the right list. You can use any of the standard add, subtract, multiply and divide characters between the results to get the calculation you need. You can then declare it as a currency or non-currency result as well as assign it to a Result Code. In this example we’ve done a simple add of all the currency results to create a calculated total dollars result.
This can then be selected in the Results dialog along with any other results you want to include in your report.
The final result appears in the report as shown in this last figure.
Summary
Using the calculated results feature in Deltek Cobra when running a report is very useful. With this neat little feature you can create an on-the-fly result rather than having to go back into your Resource calculation file and change all the existing calculations in there.
