If you are migrating from Primavera Project Planner (P3) to Primavera P6 and you have only P3 .PRX files, then the following steps show how to import P3 PRX Files into Primavera P6 Professional.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before we start there are two things you should know.
First, you will need to perform this operation on a PC that has either P3 or Primavera SureTrack installed on it. This should be on a 32-bit machine, better still, running Windows XP. The extraction process requires certain library files to be present on the machine. It should also work if you have a Pervasive or Btrieve database installed as these both use similar libraries. In the past, we have had some success when these applications are present on the conversion machine.
Second, the PRX file is a self-extracting archive that must be unpacked/unzipped before you attempt import. The Primavera P6 Import will not be able to see the project in the PRX format.
How To Steps:
- Rename the PRX file by changing the extension from .PRX to .EXE.
- Double-click on the .exe file to run it.
- This will open the following Self Extracting Project dialog.
- Click Extract.
- The requisite .P3 files will unpack into the current directory.
These files can then be imported into Primavera P6 using the Import feature.
