EVM World is the biggest Earned Value Management conference in the country and this years event will be no exception. EVM World 2015 will be held in New Orleans on May 27- May 29. Ten Six’s own Tim Boatwright will be leading the practice symposium which will discuss an “Agile” WBS and the Product Backlog. The WBS is the foundation for program execution and reporting. The Product Backlog represents the business vision of the Agile scope within the Agile WBS items. The panel will be comprised of a team representing various companies at varying levels of Agile and EVMS implementations.
Agile Track
The Agile Track at EVM World 2015 will contain six sessions, focused on discussing the current state of Agile and EVMS implementations.
The opening practice symposium session, PS-01 in the Agile Track, is lecture oriented and provides a foundation for a deeper dive of EVM Agile aspects during the other five panel discussions.
The remaining five sessions will be panel discussions where the panelists share potential solutions, thoughts, issues, best practices, lessons learned, etc. In addition, they will have an open discussion with the audience to answer any questions that relate to the scope of that session.
Sample discussion topics include:
- How is scope decomposed and represented in the WBS vs. the Product Backlog?
- How is traceability established and maintained between the WBS and the Product Backlog?
- How are traditional standards (e.g., MIL-STD-881) impacted by Agile related practices?
- Are certain elements of the WBS more traditional vs. more Agile?
- How do things like an IMP fit into the picture with the Product Backlog?
- How do you prepare to share this story for an IBR or surveillance review?

Summary
Are you executing a contract requiring both an Agile methodology and an EVMS? Have either been tailored to work together? Are either transparent? Have you experienced push-back from Agile projects who say that because they are Agile that they do not need to measure anything? If your answer is Yes to any of these questions, then check out the Agile Track at this years EVM World.
We look forward to seeing you there!
