It was our honor and delight to be invited to present at the 2014 Earned Value Management Practitioners (EVMP) Forum that took place at the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City, Virginia on July 29th – 31st. The event proved to be a great success, attracting a wide range of EVM practitioners, subject matter experts and vendors enthusiastically exchanging knowledge, wisdom and new ideas through a series of seminars, presentations and breakout training sessions.
As the demand for earned value management grows across all industries; events such as the EVMP provide unique networking and educational opportunities for experts and those new to the field alike. On the day we were presenting (July 30th), the EVMP conference provided no less than 15 training sessions, covering a wide range of topics, delivered by top professionals and educators from across the EVM theatre.
The morning sessions provided process and procedural topics covering IPMR Updates, the EVM Analyst’s monthly process, CAM roles in ANSI-748, LEAN Work Authorization, Change Management processes and implementing an Earned Value Analytics Model.
The afternoon sessions broke out into two tracks, track 1 offered five breakout sessions covering variance analysis, IPMR and Ad Hoc Analysis with wInsight tricks and tips, industry case studies, examples of IPMR implementations and reporting challenges. Track 2 also offered five breakout sessions and covered process, integration and reporting. Three of these sessions were dedicated to specific aspects of using Deltek Cobra to meet challenging situations. Our own Cobra Implementation Consultant and Trainer, Neil Smith spoke to the challenges of managing rate changes for in-flight projects. We’ve included links to the work product that supported the talk at the end of this article.
We’d particularly like to thank our sponsor for the presentation, Dale Gillam; Corporate Senior Director of EVM at SAIC. His dedication and tireless support for the EVM community is exemplary. Dale was the Processes, Integration, and Reporting Track Coordinator at the EVMP Forum this year. He is also Chairman of the Cobra Users Forum (CUF), that meets regularly to support users, coordinate and provide feedback with Deltek, share knowledge, and offer a valuable platform of communication for Cobra specialists across the globe. We truly appreciate all your support Dale.
