If you find that you needed to add a new activity code value to the activity codes list in Primavera P6, you can do so without having to go back to the Enterprise menu and using the Activity Codes dialog.
This can be very convenient when you’re in the middle of adding activity codes and find there’s one missing from the list. Keep in mind you do need to have sufficient Global Security Profile privileges to do the following: i.e. Add/Edit and Delete Global Activity Code.
Let’s say you wished to add a new subcontractor code to the list of Groundwork Subs in your project. In this example a new subcontractor has been hired to do the stoning work around the substation and lay the access roadway. In this example you are seeing the actions being performed in Primavera P6 Professional.
On the Select Subcontractors (where ‘Subcontractors’ is the sample Activity Code name) dialog, there is a New button.
Select a sibling item in the list that exists at the desired level of your activity code hierarchy and click this ‘New’ button.
In the resulting Add Code Value dialog, you can add your new Code Value and Code Description. Upon clicking OK the code will be added at the same level as code selected prior to clicking the New button.
In this example, we have added the new road works subcontractor to the existing system Activity Codes.
This value can now be added to the required activities, e.g. Lay Stoning and Lay Roadway activities in our little Wellmont substation example schedule.
The same action can be performed in Primavera P6 EPPM using the Add Code Value at the bottom of the Select Code Value dialog.
