We’ve had a number of people asking what P6WSStubs.dll is as well as visitors to our web site who have been searching for it. I thought it would be a good idea to tell you what we know about this file.
The P6WSStubs.dll is the Oracle Primavera P6 Web Services client stub used by .NET clients. The alternative client technology is Java which makes use of a Java Archive file (jar) called p6ws-jaxws-client.jar that does the same thing. This java file is available with all operating system installations of the Primavera Web Services client, but the P6WSStubs.dll file that is the .NET stub is only available on Microsoft Windows platforms. This is understandable because it is a Microsoft Windows technology, whereas Java is available on all the platforms that Oracle Primavera P6 runs on.
The Oracle Primavera P6 Web Services installation includes the appropriate client stubs along with some reasonable documentation. The documentation is divided between a “Programmers Guide” and a “Reference Manual”. The first one is a good place to start to get an overview of P6 Web Services. The P6WSStubs.dll file is referenced fairly early on in the section called “Using the Client Stub Classes”.
I suspect that people are searching for this file for one of two reasons. Either they have found it on their system and don’t know what it is or they need a copy and don’t know where to get it from. This article should have explained what the file is, and if you need a copy then all you have to do is install the appropriate version of Oracle Primavera P6 Web Services for the Microsoft Windows platform.
Naturally, we would be happy to try and answer any further questions relating to this file.
