We’ve been using virtual machines for quite some time to run different versions of the Oracle Primavera P6 and Deltek tool suites. With so many different combinations and versions of Primavera P6, Deltek Cobra, MPM or wInsight that we need to have available to support our clients, virtual machines are really the only way to go.
Recently, I was trying to get VirtualBox up and running on a Mac running OSX for a client, so that I could load up Primavera P6 and Deltek Cobra. Upon installing VirtualBox, I was presented with the following error.
VirtualBox Error: Mac OS X – Failed to open a session for the virtual machine [VM name].
Failed to load VMMR0.r0 (VERR_SUBLIB_WORLD_WRITABLE).
Solution
Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) 10.6.8
Cause: Incorrect read/write permissions on the Applications folder.
Solution: Set the ‘everyone’ privilege to ‘Read only’ for the Applications folder.
Steps:
- Right-click on the Applications folder and choose Get Info…
- In Sharing and Permissions: click on the padlock icon bottom-right to activate the settings.
- Enter administrator password.
- Set ‘everyone’ to Read only.
- Close the Get Info dialog.
VirtualBox is available free from Oracle. Whether you’re running Windows, Linux, Mac or some other OS, VirtualBox is great for running the Oracle Primavera P6 and Deltek Cobra tool suites within a virtual environment.
